Fourth of July holiday travel tips

Before you hop on the roads for the holiday, remember to pack your patience. Tuesday is supposed to be the most congested on the roads, according to AAA.

When the holiday falls in the middle of the week, you get two weekends to celebrate the Fourth and folks are leaving at all sorts of times.

Now might be a good time to leave, but AAA says Tuesday afternoon will be the busiest.

If you are leaving on Tuesday, try to avoid those rush hour times between 3:30 p.m. and 6:00 p.m.

That’s because AAA reports nearly 50 million Americans are expected to hit the roads and travel 50 more miles or more this week.

With all this traffic and all the parties, Connecticut State Police say they will have extra patrols out.

They’re looking for folks who partied a little too hard and got behind the wheel or are distracted on the phone. Plus, they’ll be ticketing driver with that lead foot, so watch your speed.

Some good news in all of this? Gas prices have leveled off a little bit. They’re down 9 cents nationwide from Memorial Day.
