Governor-elect spends Christmas Eve morning at bike giveaway

News

Governor-elect Ned Lamont spent Christmas Eve morning in Bridgeport, along with Mayor Joe Ganim (D- Bridgeport) and Santa Claus too, giving bikes to kids in need.

“I’m just going around the state, going around Bridgeport, thanking people for their generosity,” said Lamont. “The Christmas season, this makes a huge difference for these kids.”

Since this weekend, 700 brand new bikes were given out to Bridgeport kids; the last 58 of them were handed out just in time for Christmas with a giveaway at Trumbull Gardens.

“It feels good to get a new bike.” said six-year-old Zyairr Nichols.

The money for the bikes was donated from people across the city. The governor elect said the event was about more than the presents.

“We had the police here, fire here, we had the mayor here, the governor elect here,” said Lamont, “and I told the kids we’re all here because we love you…. you’re my extended family and we’re all in this together.”
