Some local restaurants and coffee shops are serving their typical cup of joe today in a special way on Wednesday.
The first Wednesday in October is National Coffee with a Cop Day.
In New Britain, McDonalds teamed up with their neighborhood police department to celebrate.
“I think it gives us an opportunity to step outside the comfort zone for us and the community to see that, aside from being police officers, which is our profession, we’re community members, we’re fathers, coaches, we’re volunteers,” explained Officer Ben Murphy, Captain of the Patrol Division with the New Britain Police Department.
It’s an opportunity for local officers to speak one on one with the folks they serve and protect on a daily basis.
“Police are part of the community, not a separate entity. So to be able to actually relate to them on a human level, that means a lot,” said Collin Schlank of Simsbury.
It’s not every day you get to enjoy java with a police officer, but on Wednesday, that’s the theme. It’s all about community, cops, conversation and coffee.
