Groton sub base holds security drills Wednesday

GROTON, Conn. (WTNH)– The Naval Submarine Base in Groton will be holding security drills that will include live automatic weapons firing with blanks on Wednesday morning.

The Navy New London Public Affairs Office says that the Naval Security Forces will conduct drills along the waterfront of Naval Submarine Base in New London between 9 a.m. and 11 a.m.

The drills will include live automatic weapons firing with blanks, as well as SUBASE Security boats and simulated aggressor boats.

Officials say that the exercise is not in response to any specific threat, but annual training that enhances the readiness of base Naval Security Forces to respond to threats to the base and its home-ported submarines.
