WATERBURY, Conn. (WTNH)- A security guard is watching over customers at Webster bank in Waterbury after an attempted robbery over the weekend.
The attempted robbery happened Sunday around 4:30 in the afternoon on Wigwam avenue. Police say a woman was approached by a gun-wielding suspect demanded cash moments after she pulled up to the ATM there.
“He initially approached the passenger’s side of the vehicle and then when that door was locked, he ran around to the drivers door,” said Waterbury Deputy Chief Christopher Corbett. “At that point she drove off.”
The suspect fired two shots as the woman drove away.
“He fired two shots at the side of her vehicle. Fortunately the woman was not injured. She was not struck by the bullets,” Corbett said.
The suspect fled up Wigwam towards Perkins avenue.
Police say the suspect was captured on surveillance video getting into a dark colored ford explorer.
“We are reviewing video surveillance from the bank and surrounding businesses,” Corbett said.
Police are still searching for the suspect. Detectives continue to investigate.
