Hamden students celebrate reading with News 8

HAMDEN, Conn. (WTNH) — It was a fun morning for some elementary school students in New Haven County on Thursday!

Eight elementary schools in Branford, Hamden, New Haven and West Haven joined the United Way of Greater New Haven to celebrate reading.

Dr. Seuss’s birthday is on March 2, which is Read Across America Day.

News 8’s Laura Hutchinson read Dr. Seuss’s “What Pet Should I Get?” to a third grade classroom at Church Street School in Hamden.Related Content: ‘Shelfie’ movement helps children explore imagination with books

The students also had the chance to see a news camera up close and try their hand with the microphone.

Read Across America is a time to get together with friends, pick up a book and read aloud to mark the occasion.
