The number of flu cases in the state is rising.
State health officials say so far, 259 people have been diagnosed with the flu, and 82 of those have ended up in the hospital.
The state Department of Public Health has issued the number of flu cases by county:
- Fairfield County (76)
- Hartford (75)
- New Haven (55)
- New London (14)
- Litchfield (13)
- Middlesex (9)
- Windham (9)
- Tolland (8)

So far this season there is one death linked to the flu. Officials say that person was over the age of 65.

Health experts say that although flu season has been relatively quiet so far, the illness generally peaks several months into the season, around January and February.
