(ABC News) – Devices, tablets and other digital gadgets, distracting during the day but could they also be causing your kids to lose sleep at night?
Researchers in the UK reviewed the evidence, looking at 20 studies involving more than 125 thousand kids and their device use.
They found a strong and consistent link between the use of these devices among bedtime and inadequate sleep, poor sleep quality and daytime sleepiness.
The finding, having potentially big implications for the health of children and teens who use these devices at night.
Current estimates suggest 72% of all children and 89% of adolescents have at least one media device, such as a smartphone or tablet.
And we also know that skimping on sleep, over time, can have detrimental effects on young minds and growing bodies.
The message for parents?
If your kids use digital media devices, set clear rules about use, particularly when it comes to bedtime.
Putting those devices into sleep mode at night might help your kids get a little sleep themselves.
