Breast surgeon undergoes first mammography to share importance of cancer screening

Dr. Camilia Lawrence, a breast surgeon at the Hartford HealthCare Cancer Institute recently celebrated her 40th birthday, which prompted her to send a strong message.

She gifted herself with her first ever mammography.

“I thought what a unique way to get the message out regarding the importance of screening mammography for early detection,” she explained.

Until we have a cure, Dr. Lawrence reminds us that early detection remains the cornerstone in terms of identifying the legion or cancerous legion at the earliest stage possible.

“Which is going to give woman the best chances at survival,” she said.

Advancements in imaging technology, 3D breast tomosynthesis and ultrasounds help radiologists like Dr. Holley Dey get a better and clearer read. 

“We are very pleased to be able to offer this technology, which provides increased possibilities for diagnosing early breast cancer,” Dr. Dey stated.

A reminder to all women that no one is invisible and just how important self care is.
