Homicide investigation underway after body found on Route 2 off ramp in East Hartford


Connecticut State Police are investigating a homicide after a body was found lying near the right shoulder of the exit 4 off ramp on Route 2 in East Hartford.  Police have identified the body. 

Police say that at around 3:30 a.m., troopers responded to the area of Route 2 Westbound, Exit 4 off ramp after a passerby reported a person lying in the roadway. 

Upon the arrival, troopers determined that a black male was lying in the right shoulder of the off ramp and was partially in the travel lane.

Paramedics then arrived on scene to confirm that the man was deceased. His death has been determined to be a homicide. 

State Police shutdown the Exit 4 Westbound ramp with multiple cruisers earlier in the day. At one point there was about six to eight cruisers on scene. 

Detectives from a Major Crimes Squad have assumed the homicide investigation. Officials identified the man as Jermaine Williams, 23 of Vernon. 

The Medical Examiner’s office also responded to the scene and will be conducting an autopsy to determine a cause of death.

The area of Route 2 Westbound was closed for several hours for the investigation and drivers were urged to use alternate routes. However, the area has since reopened to traffic.
