HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) – Teachers here in Connecticut are urging state lawmakers to pass legislation to reduce standardized testing in schools.
Hundreds of members of the Connecticut Education Association and the American Federation of Teachers of Connecticut rallied outside the state’s Capitol on Tuesday.
They urged the General Assembly to amend a testing study bill to eliminate the Smarter Balance Assessment Consortium or SBAC test. The teachers said students are being overwhelmed by excessive testing. A bill awaiting Senate action would require state education officials to study the impact of statewide testing on student learning time.
