Inert training grenade found in trash can outside Newington gym

News

Police confirmed that an inert training grenade was found in a trash can outside a Newington gym on Thursday morning.

The grenade was found in a trash can outside of the LA Fitness building at 3563 Berlin Turnpike. 

Officers, firefighters and EMS quickly responded to the scene, and the Hartford Bomb Squad was dispatched to investigate the possible explosive device. The area was evacuated. No injuries were reported.

The Hartford Bomb Squad arrived on the scene, secured the device, and determined it to be an inert training grenade. The took the grenade, and the “all-clear” was given by 9:20 a.m.

All businesses in the surrounding area are back open.
