SHELTON, Conn. (WTNH) — An injured bald eagle that was rescued from the Housatonic River has died Sunday morning.

Shelton firefighters, with the assistance of the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP), recovered an injured bald eagle Saturday afternoon. The injured bird was located in the area of Wooster Island in Shelton.

The injured eagle was taken to Christine’s Critters Inc. to recover. However, officials say they monitored her all night and witnessed her health decline.

“We were preparing to administer her chelation and fluid therapy, and she simply closed her eyes and passed away peacefully,” says Christines’s Critters Inc.
