New Zealand’s semi-automatic weapon ban now in effect

International

New Zealand’s ban on semi-automatic weapons is now in effect less than one month after the terror attacks at two mosques that left 50 people dead.

The bill outlaws high-capacity firearms, magazines, and associated parts.

It was passed by parliament almost unanimously.

Gun owners will be able to get a refund for the weapons they already have through a buyback program.
