CORNWALL, Conn. (WTNH) — Investigators are looking into the cause of a fire that killed nearly 200 piglets and 18 sows at Maple Hill Farm.

Litchfield County Dispatch says the fire came in just after 2 o’clock on Tuesday morning for a barn fire on Cherry Hill Road. Crews from 12 different fire departments and ambulance companies responded to the call.

Cornwall’s fire marshal says the barn did have electricity.

Other animals — 8 draft horses and a donkey — were able to be rescued from the barn and the blaze.
