Police are investigating after a man was shot multiple times in Waterbury on Monday night.

Police say just before 10 p.m., officers responded to Welles Street for the report of shots fired. Upon arrival, they found glass and shell casings in the street, as well as several people reporting hearing several gunshots and a car speeding off.

While officers were investigating on Welles Street, a separate call came in to police reporting a man with gunshot injuries on Porter Street. Police then responded to that scene where they found the victim suffering from multiple gunshot injuries being treated by EMS.

The victim and a woman who he was with then told police that this shooting had taken place in the area of Bank Street and Porter Street.

However, after processing both scenes, police say that the man with the gunshot injuries was involved in the incident on Welles Street. The victim had been taken by car to Porter Street before 911 was called.

The victim is out of surgery but remains hospitalized. His identity and current condition are unknown at this time.

The shooting remains under investigation. Anyone with information is urged to contact detectives at (203) 574-6941‬ or Crime Stoppers at ‪(203) 755-1234‬.
