LEDYARD, Conn. (WTNH) – Ledyard Police arrested a man Wednesday morning who they say had tried to break into a home just before they got him. Around 11:20 a.m. police got a 9-1-1 call about a burglary at 177 Spicer Hill Road. The homeowners say there was a knock at the door, and when it took them a few minutes to answer the door, they say someone tried to break in. Police found a man matching the description not far away, on Route 214. They put Thomas Coady, 35, in the back of a police car, and then used a search dog to trace the burglar’s steps. They say the dog tracked the scent through the woods, and straight to the police car. Along the way police say the dog found Coady’s jacket and backpack full of burglary tools. Coady is being held on $5,000 bond. Police say the case is still under investigation.
