HARTFORD, Conn. (WTNH) — Governor Dannel Malloy is back from a trip to Orlando, where he visited the Pulse nightclub where 49 people were shot and killed last month.
The governor says he felt compelled to stop at the club while he was in Florida for a meeting for the Democratic Party Platform Committee. Governor Malloy knows the pain of a mass shooting. He was one of the first state leaders to arrive at Sandy Hook on the day of the massacre.
“I wanted to mark the occasion so I went there. It was personally moving and difficult,” said Malloy.
The governor says recent events, including the murders of five Dallas police officers, makes the need for a nationwide ban on so-called assault weapons even more urgent.
