WILLIMANTIC, Conn. (WTNH) — Connecticut State Police are investigating after a man was found dead in a cell inside the Willimantic Police Department.
Willimantic Police say the man was taken into custody on a felony charge Wednesday night and brought to the Department to be processed. Police say the man was cooperative and no physical force was used to take him into custody. The man was then placed into a cell that was occupied by no one else.
At 3:00 a.m. Thursday, officers found him unresponsive inside the cell.
Willimantic Police then contacted the States Attorney’s Office and the State Police Eastern District Major Crime Unit.
State Police has taken over the investigation.
The man’s name has not yet been released.
