Michelle Obama did not expect husband to win election

Former First Lady Michelle Obama continued her book tour on Tuesday with a stop at a center in the United Kingdom.

Mrs. Obama took questions and reflected on her memoir while on stage at the Southbank Centre in London.

She shared that she did not expect to be the First Lady because she did not think her husband would win.

“One of the reasons why I agreed to support for Barack’s run for president was that deep down I was like, ‘no way he’s going to win.’ And we can just sort of get this out of the way and I could be that supportive wave going ‘oh honey, you tried. Okay, now let’s go back to our lives.’ As usual, that was my whole plan, you know, because I did not believe that America was ready for a black president let alone a black president named Barack Hussein Obama,” she explained.

After this stop, Mrs. Obama will be taking a break from the tour to attend President George H.W. Bush’s funeral.
