Multiple towns cancel parades ahead of Memorial Day

(WTNH) — Multiple towns have decided to cancel their Memorial Day parades scheduled for Monday.

The Town of Windsor says that the Memorial Day observances scheduled for Monday at Elm Grove and Veterans Cemeteries, as well as the Memorial Day Parade have been canceled. A ceremony at the Windsor Town Hall Council Chambers will be taking place as scheduled at 10:00 a.m. on Monday.

The Town of Manchester has also decided to cancel their Memorial Day Parade. Officials say a Center Memorial Park Program will be held in the Full Gospel Interdenominational Church on Main Street at 11 a.m. The public is invited to attend.

The town of Hamden announced their parade was cancelled just after 6:30 p.m. on Sunday night but said that they will have a ceremony honoring veterans at 11 a.m. at the Hamden Middle School.

Bethany cancelled its Monday parade at 8 p.m. on Sunday night. The Bethany memorial service will take place at the town hall at 10 a.m. while Woodbridge will host theirs at the town’s fire station at 8 a.m.

Branford has cancelled their parade and moved their memorial services to the high school gymnasium at 10 a.m.

According to the Old Saybrook Fire Department, the town’s parade has been cancelled. However, there will be a naval ceremony at 9 a.m. at Saybrook Point and a service at the Old Saybrook Firehouse at 10 a.m.

Memorial Day parades in Unionville and Farmington are cancelled due to the weather. The Veterans event will still be held at Town Hall at noon.

All Memorial Day activities in Fairfield have been cancelled. There is no rain date for the parade.

Simsbury Memorial Day parades have been cancelled. Services will be held at Trinity Church at 9:00 a.m. for Tariffville and at Eno Hall at 1:30 p.m. for Simsbury.

Westport’s Memorial Day parade has been cancelled. An indoor ceremony will be held at 10:00 a.m. at Town Hall Auditorium.

Norwalk has cancelled its Memorial Day parade due to the weather.

Canton has cancelled its Memorial Day parade. A ceremony will be held in the Canton High School auditorium at 10:00 a.m.

West Haven’s Memorial Day parade has been cancelled due to the weather. The city will have a ceremony at 10:30 a.m. on the West Haven Green.

Vernon has cancelled its Memorial Day parade due to weather.

West Hartford’s Memorial Day parade has been cancelled due to this morning’s weather forecast.

South Windsor’s Memorial Day parade has been cancelled due to weather. The Memorial Day ceremony/service at Veteran’s Memorial Park is still scheduled for 11:00 a.m.

Trumbull’s Memorial Day parade is cancelled. The Vietnam Veterans Ceremony at 7:30 a.m. and the Memorial Ceremony 8:30 a.m. will be held as planned.

East Haven Memorial Day ceremonies have been moved to the East Haven American Legion Post on Thompson Avenue and will begin at 11:30 a.m.

Bloomfield’s Memorial Day parade is cancelled. A ceremony set for 12 p.m. on the town green is still scheduled to be held.News 8 will update this story as more details become available.
