A ride malfunction at the Jacksonville Agricultural Fair Saturday leaves several people hurt.

The incident happened on a ride called the “sky flyer.”  Officials say about 20 people were on the ride when it malfunctioned. Jacksonville Fire Rescue say seven people were taken to the hospital for treatment, but all injuries appear to be minor. Cornell Wright, who was in line to ride the Sky Flyer, describes what he saw and heard.

“Out of nowhere we started hearing stuff like metal banging and it was like bang, bang, bang, bang and we were like what was that?” Wright said. “And then we just saw all the kids hitting the gate, they were constantly hitting the gate and they were screaming and crying and parents were trying to stop the machine and the guy who was running the machine he was like, Oh my God, Oh my God, and was trying to stop it by pressing the button. They were like turn it off, turn it off, turn the machine off, but he couldn’t do it” Wright continued.

A fair official says incidents like these are very rare.  An investigation is ongoing as to what caused the malfunction.
