NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) – A 10 year old girl was hit by a car Sunday afternoon around 3:50pm on Orchard Street near Chapel Street.

A witness told police they saw the girl get out of a parked car onto the sidewalk but then walked in front of a car on Orchard Street. The driver of the car told police she never saw the young girl walk into the road. Investigators determined the girl walked into the path of the oncoming car and was hidden from view. There was no damage to the car.

Police say the 55 year old driver from Meridan was not distracted. She was not charged or ticketed for the accident. The young girl suffered a broken leg and was taken to Yale-New haven for treatment.
