New Haven homeless man who returned missing $10,000 check now sitting on board of directors


About a year ago, News 8 introduced you to a homeless New Haven man named Elmer Alvarez.

Elmer found a check in the street for more than $10,000 and returned it to the owner.

Roberta Hoskie was so thankful, it led her on a journey to help Elmer change his life.

Elmer now sits on Hoskie’s board of directors at Outreach Foundation, which helps provide affordable housing for low and moderate income families.

Both have big plans for the future.

Plans for the shelter are still in the early fundraising stages.
