NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) — A sneak peak at a school five years in the making in New Haven.
Construction is underway on the New Haven Academy Magnet School on State Street. The school first opened in 2003 and it’s been at different locations around the city. Now, it will soon have a permanent home.
The students are currently housed a few blocks away and the curriculum at the school centers on social justice.
“It’s one of the high schools that has the highest college success rates in the district. We track that. How many students are successful in college two years after their graduation. New Haven Academy is one of our shining stars in that,” said Superintendent of Schools Garth Harries.
Currently, 265 students are in attendance there. The new facility will be able to accommodate 300. It will open its doors in September.
