New York man charged for threatening to kill U.S. Congresswoman Ilhan Omar


A New York man has been charged for threatening to kill a US Congresswoman.

Police arrested Patrick Carlineo at a house in Rathbone Friday morning.

Officials say the 55-year-old is charged with threatening to assault and murder Representative Ilhan Omar.

According to the US Attorney for the Western District of New York, one of Omar’s staff members received a phone call last month from Carlineo.

He says during that call, he accused Omar of being a terrorist, then Carlineo threatened to shoot her.

Omar is one of three members of congress who are Muslim.

She is also the first Somali-American member.

If found guilty of the charge Carlineo could face a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison.
