A teacher’s aide at a Milford school for children with special needs is suspended without pay after accusations of exposing himself and inappropriately touching female students.
Local police state child welfare workers are investigating the accusations coming from the Boys and Girls Village, where the man works. Milford police confirmed to News 8 that the male teacher’s aide is facing imminent arrest. Officers say they expect to charge the man with fourth degree sexual assault as well as indecent exposure.
Two 14-year-old girls at Boys & Girls Village accuse the aide of sending sexually suggestive text messages. The girls also accuse him of exposing his genitals to them and inappropriately touching at least one of them.
News 8 spoke with the mother of the one of the alleged victims Wednesday afternoon.
“I think he should go to jail for this because I think he’s been grooming these young girls. I hope that other parents that have young girls in this school are going to ask their children if they’ve had contact with him because I’m sure there are others.”
Dr. Steven Kant, CEO of Boys and Girls Village, issued the following statement to News 8 Wednesday:
“Boys & Girls Village (BGV) was notified by a parent of a student in our school of charges made against a member of its staff, who is alleged to have exposed himself to one or more or more of the agency’s female clients. Boys & Girls Village immediately suspended the staff member, notified the CT Department of Children and Families (DCF) and began working with Milford City police to support their investigation of these charges.
Beyond our cooperation with the investigation, the full focus of our concern and efforts at this time is to take any steps necessary to support the wellbeing of the children involved.
Boys & Girls Village conducts has a full range of pre-employment background checks that are employed prior to hiring any employee at the agency.
Boys & Girls Village will continue to cooperate fully with law enforcement and other appropriate authorities to investigate this matter.”
