North Haven firefighters host “Stop the Bleed” training for teachers


The North Haven Fire Department are hosting the “Stop the Bleed” training event on Tuesday at 8 a.m. at North Haven High School

According to the North Haven Fire Department, a training program will be held at the North Haven High School for teachers to teach them the essential first steps to handle life-threatening bleeding before paramedics arrive. 

Firefighters will train teachers in a 90-minute session on how to pack wounds, use tourniquets, and other ways to stop life-threatening bleeding.

Under the program, bleeding control kits will be installed within every school in North Haven. The kits contain items like latex gloves, compression bandages and tourniquets. 

North Haven High School will be the first school in the district to undergo the Stop the Bleed training. 

The North Haven Fire Department is sponsoring the training and has called upon trainers, physicians and nurses from across the state to teach the course.
