NORWICH, Conn. (WTNH) — A Norwich doctor is accused of sexually assaulting an 18-year-old patient under his care.
Manoj Saxena, 44, allegedly sexually assaulted the victim on March 30th after she went to the Concentra Urgent Care on Connecticut Avenue to be treated for an injury.
“It’s disturbing,” said Lenae Picco of Griswold. “I have a daughter and if she goes to the doctor, everybody, there should be somebody in the room at all times with the doctor.”
None of the patients leaving Concentra would comment. Picco is not a patient, says the arrest would not necessarily stop her from using the center.
“As long as the doctor’s not there that’s being accused,” she said. “You can’t put this against every doctor out there.”
No one answered at Saxena’s Mansfield home and he was not at the office.
Concentra released the following statement:
Our primary focus is providing quality and trusted medical care to our patients…. and we take allegations of inappropriate behavior very seriously.
We will cooperate fully with law enforcement authorities, but cannot comment on any pending matter.”
Picco says the victim reporting the alleged assault to police probably prevented others from becoming victims.
Dr. Saxena is charged with with second-degree and fourth-degree sexual assault. He is due in Norwich Superior Court on May 28th.
