Crews in Torrington responded to a large heating oil spill at a commercial building Tuesday morning.
Firefighters were dispatched to 855 University Drive at around 8:30. When crews arrived, they found a large oil spill coming from the boiler room of the building.
Crews from DEEP and a private cleaning tractor were called to the scene. It was determined that more than 1,000 gallons of heating oil spilled into the drains leading out to the yard of the building.
Officials say the leak was caused by a break in the boiler piping system.
Firefighters contained the spill to only the boiler room area. They say no other part of the building was affected.
