Police say that at around 9:23 p.m., officers responded to the report of a domestic disturbance at 54 Catamount Road.
Upon arrival, officers say that they found that a serious domestic assault had taken place inside of the home and they quickly took the suspect, identified as James C. Taylor, of Fairfield, into custody .
During the investigation, officers located a woman dead on scene. Her identity has not been released at this time.
According to police, it was later determined that Taylor had forced his way into the home with a firearm and fired at the victim. A struggle then ensued between Taylor and the victim’s son, who had heard the disturbance.
Taylor was arrested and charged with Murder, Attempted Murder, Home invasion, Burglary, Assault, and illegal Discharge of a firearm. His bond was set at $1 million, but it was increased to $2 million after he was arraigned.
Officials say there is no threat to public safety.
This case is currently under investigation by the Fairfield Police Detective Bureau and the Connecticut State Police Major Crimes Unit is processing the scene.
Taylor is due back in court on Feb. 19th.
