PD: Arrest made for Windsor teen’s murder in Hartford

An arrest has been made for the murder of a 16-year-old Windsor boy in Hartford back in April.

On Thursday, officials said 22-year-old Isaiah Benitez of Hartford was arrested for the murder of Felipe Lopez.

On April 24th, Lopez was found shot to death in a crashed car at the intersection of Albany Avenue and Signorney Street.

Authorities said the two agreed to meet up that night and a dispute occurred before the murder took place.

For Lopez’s family, it’s been a week of tears and hugs and vigils and questions without answers. Lopez left behind his girlfriend and nine month old baby. 

But Hartford police announced they have solved the murder of the Windsor man as well as an attempted homicide. 

Benitez is already behind bars on criminal attempt to commit murder and assault charges after being accused of a double shooting in Hartford on March 17th.

The family attended the news conference with the police detectives and the chief. Lt. Paul Cicero said the family has a long history with Hartford police.

“Mr. Lopez‘s family is fantastic!,” Lt. Cicero said, “Most of our officers have known most of their family for a long time, decades. They are a great family, and our hearts go out to them. “

Police believe he may have use the same gun in all the shootings, Benitez will be arraigned Friday morning in Hartford Superior Court.
