PD: Man arrested after woman assaulted, robbed in West Haven


A New Haven man was arrested Wednesday after a woman was seriously injured in an assault in West Haven.

Police say 29-year-old Jamyl W. Mercer was arrested after a domestic dispute, where a woman was allegedly held against her will and sustained serious injuries. She was also robbed of jewelry.

The victim, who has not been identified, was hospitalized. Her current condition is unknown. 

Detectives from the West Haven Police Special Victims Unit and Crime Scene Unit processed the scene, assisted the victim and eventually found Mercer at a home in New Haven.

Mercer was charged with assault, robbery, threatening, unlawful restraint, criminal mischief, larceny and disorderly conduct. He was held on a $200,000 bond.
