Police say officers first responded to the Shell Gas Station, at 195 Prospect Avenue, after a man reportedly pulled out a black semi automatic handgun and demanded cash and cigarettes from the clerk.
The suspect then fled the scene, heading toward Kane Street.
Then at around 11:08 p.m., CVS Pharmacy employees at 1099 New Britain Avenue, reported a suspicious man to police. The man, who allegedly matched the description of the armed robber at the Shell Gas Station, was asking customers at CVS for money because his U-Haul truck ran out of gas.
When police arrived to that scene, the U-Haul was unoccupied and the suspect was last seen going eastbound on New Britain Avenue.
Shortly later, police found the suspect in the parking lot of Cumberland Farms, at 471 New Park Avenue. He was allegedly carrying an empty gas can and was found to be in possession of a BB gun, along with an undetermined amount of cash and cigarettes.
The man, later identified as 48-year-old Harold Zene, was then arrested. He was charged with robbery, carrying a dangerous weapon, threatening, larceny and breach of peace.
