Pedestrian killed on Route 8 in Bridgeport identified


Connecticut State Police have confirmed with News 8 that a pedestrian has been struck and killed Thursday night on Route 8 southbound in Bridgeport.

At around 8 p.m. Thursday night, dispatch received several calls regarding a female attempting to cross the highway Route 25/8 near exit 5. 

Investigation uncovered that the female was struck by a dump truck traveling on the highway and injuries were fatal. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene. 

The pedestrian was identified as Maria Mendoza-Robles, 54 of Bridgeport. No other information has been released of Mendoza-Robles. 

Operator of the dump truck fled the scene and the accident is still being investigated. 

Police are asking if anyone as information regarding the accident to contact Troop G at 203 – 696 – 2500
