Plans are moving forward in Derby with a proposal that would bring new life into the south side of the downtown area.
Derby Downtown LLC was given approval to finish the design.
An amendment had to be changed first in order for that to happen.
The project would include mixed use residential and commercial projects in the area of Route 34 and Factory Street.
Renderings were released of what the area would look like if the plans become a reality.
“Next month, we’re putting the application in and our zoning board is going to accept the application and go through their proposal to see if it’s something the city wants to do. We will work with them to get the people down here, the residents down here, and just bring some life to the city,” Mayor Richard Dziekan said.
The area where this project is being proposed has been vacant for a number of years.
The city purchased half of the area, while the other part is privately owned.
