Police identify elderly couple killed by allegedly impaired driver in Stonington

News

Police have identified the husband and wife who were struck and killed by an allegedly impaired driver in Stonington on Saturday night.

Police say that just after 8 p.m., 78-year-old Joanna C. Wakeman and 88-year-old Seth F. Wakeman, both of the same residence in Stonington, were hit by a car while crossing the street at the intersection of Route 27 and Rossie Pentway.

The couple was then taken to a local hospital where they were pronounced dead. 

The driver of the car, 73-year-old Carol M. Belli, of Groton, was arrested and charged with DUI.

The accident remains under investigation.
