Police identify man killed in Groton tractor trailer truck crash

Police have identified a Rhode Island man who was killed in a tractor trailer truck crash on Interstate 95 in Groton on Tuesday morning. 

Connecticut State Police say that just before 5 a.m., a tractor trailer truck was traveling on I-95 southbound, north of exit 89, when it went off the left side of the roadway, through a metal beam guardrail and down an embankment.

It then struck an unoccupied hydraulic lift, crossed Cow Hill Road and came to a final rest at a dirt embankment.

The driver, 41-year-old Mayro Estrada, of Providence, Rhode Island, died from his injuries sustained in the crash. 

The accident closed the highway for several hours Tuesday morning. 

The crash remains under investigation at this time. Anyone with information is urged to contact troopers at 860-848-6500.
