NEW LONDON, Conn. (WTNH) — New London police have arrested a man who they say struck a CVS employee in the face while trying to flee the store with stolen items.

Officers responded to the Bank Street pharmacy at 3:40 Saturday afternoon. While police were en-route, employees attempted to confront the male suspect as he left the store. The suspect then struck one of the employees in the face and fled up Jefferson Avenue.

Police were able to locate the suspect, identified as 26-year-old Dereck Bonaparte, who was attempting to hide from officers on the rear deck of a third floor apartment.

Bonaparte faces charges of robbery, assault, trespass, larceny, possession of drug paraphernalia and interfering with police. He was held on a $15,000 bond.

The stolen items were recovered.
