Blumenthal: Reuniting immigrant families is better for kids, and more cost-effective

News

A member of Connecticut’s congressional delegation is demanding a more humane and cost-effective solution for asylum seekers.

Senator Richard Blumenthal spoke with immigrant students in New Haven Friday morning. The Democrat talked to immigrant children taking part in a summer program at Wilbur Cross High School.

“There is no question that these young people are better off with their families learning english rather than separated at detention centers, at a fraction of the cost that it takes to keep kids separated from their families in mass enternment camps.”

Blumenthal says detention centers are costing taxpayers $400,000 per day.
