HARTFORD, Conn. (WTNH)– Much of Puerto Rico is still without power, and struggling to clean up after Hurricane Maria slammed the island.
On Monday, just one day after returning from Puerto Rico, Senator Richard Blumenthal plans on addressing the need for more federal aid.Related: Blumenthal joins other US senators in Puerto Rico to survey damage, relief
“As I saw this devastation, my heart broke because I thought of the families in those homes gone, towns destroyed, community centers gone, roads impassable, hospitals damaged as well,” said Blumenthal.
The senator traveled down there with several other U.S. senators to get a glimpse of the damage and relief efforts.
Blumenthal says this is a humanitarian crisis and more action needs to be done to rebuild the island. He will also meet with families, some of whom came to Connecticut after Hurricane Maria.
