NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) — Students at New Haven’s West Rock Academy, formerly known as MicroSociety Magnet School, have been evacuated due to a power outage earlier this afternoon. Power has since been restored, however, students are dismissed early.

School will be in session on Monday.

According to reports from New Haven Schools Chief Operating Officer, Michael Pinto, a squirrel caused the power outage after entering a tranformer outside of the school causing a partial outage to the school. This incident also led to a burnt motor in a compressor which is why New Haven Fire Department was called in. United Illuminating had to cut the power to the school.
