Portland town offices closed Wednesday to honor President George H.W. Bush

PORTLAND, Conn. (WTNH) - Town officials in Portland have announced that town offices will be closed on Wednesday in remembrance of 41st President George H.W. Bush.

The First Selectwoman's office says the town chose to close town offices as a way to participate in the National Day of Mourning for President Bush. 

The 94-year-old died late Friday night. 

President Donald Trump issued an executive order, announcing that federal buildings nationwide will close on Wednesday as a day of observance.

Mail delivery will also be suspended on Wednesday.

Bush will lie in state until Wednesday morning when his casket will then be transported to the National Cathedral for the first of two funeral services.
