NEW BRITAIN, Conn. (WTNH)– Supporters expected to gather in Hartford Thursday to rally in support of a New Britain man who may be deported from the U.S.

That New Britain man is Mariano Cardoso Senior. He’s lived here in the United States for 27 years. On Thursday, he has to check in with immigration officials. During that meeting he may be given a deportation date to return to his native Mexico.

This would not be the first time that Cardoso has possibly had to return to his native country. His parents snuck him into the country when he was a toddler. In 2008 he was locked up by immigration officials for two weeks. In 2011 he was set to be deported but that order was eventually suspended.

Cardoso is a college graduate. He’s also married with two sons and a daughter.

Supporters will gather Thursday morning on his behalf right outside the federal building in Hartford and stand up to the Trump administration’s deportation agenda.

Of course this is not the first time we’ve seen something like that happen in Connecticut. In recent months several people have faced the possibility of deportation. Some of them granted a temporary stay — at the last minute. Others are still taking sanctuary in local churches.

While there is expected to be a great deal of support for Cardoso, this is an issue that has another side to it. There are those who feel that he is not here legally and therefore he should go back to Mexico and come back into the United States through the proper channels.
