The FDA said the microorganisms can cause infections and can lead to serious health injuries when injected into the skin. Once the skin barrier is broken, the risk for infection increases.

Commonly reported symptoms include rashes or lesions consisting of red papules, the FDA said. Some cases can lead to permanent scarring.

Consumers are advised to ask their tattoo artist or studio about the inks they use and tp avoid the recalled inks.

Those who have experienced health problems after tattoo administration should call a doctor and their tattoo artist.
