Recent grads facing contradicting advice on job search process

Many recent grads struggle to find the best way to land their dream job.

For recent college grad Marina Piazza, she is getting advice from her mom, her teachers, and her peers. But, one problem, they are all contradicting each other.

“You didn’t really have technology back in the day. Parents are going to be a little bit stuck in their ways because they have gotten jobs so they think it is proven,” Piazza said.

“As technology evolves, as the job market shifts, as new jobs pop up, even new industries naturally the process for searching for those jobs and landing those jobs is going to change as well, said job search expert Jacquelyn Smith.

But for Marina’s mom, she thinks you ditch the internet and go personal.

“I believe, as parents, I believe we offer more. I think that you can go in person…and I think that you should go that extra step you. Shouldn’t have the computer be a sole source,” Maryann Piazza said.

While experts in the field say the application world is adapting and, although some rules stay true forever, others need an upgrade.
