Salem man faces judge on home invasion charges

News

SALEM, Conn. (WTNH) – 21-year-old Nicholas Benner is due back in court on Monday on home invasion and several other charges.

The manager of the Meadow Road Group Home on Witch Meadow Road reported Benner walking away from the facility and into the woods. The manager explained to police Benner required multiple medications, which he had not taken.

Troopers began to search for him. Then they received an emergency call from a homeowner on West Road, which believed someone was attempting to gain entry into the residence.

The homeowner description matched Benner. He was later located at another home along West Road, where he confronted troopers with branches.

Benner refused all orders to put the branches down so the troopers deployed a taser to secure him. He was taken to Backus Hospital for the removal of the probes and a medical evaluation. He was later released and taken to Troop K where he was charged. Benner was held on a $100,000 bond.

Anyone who resides in the area noticing further damage to their residence or other property is asked to contact Trooper Dicocco at Troop K at (860) 465-5400 and reference case number 1500250227.
