NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) – You couldn’t beat Monday’s weather for a day on the golf course and that’s exactly where more than 100 people spent their day for the 2022 Shamrock Open.

140 golfers teed off at the Alling Memorial Golf Course in New Haven as part of the tournament. News 8 is one of the sponsors of the event.

Proceeds from the event benefit the New Haven St. Patrick’s Day Parade of Greater New Haven. While golf might not be the first thing that comes to mind when you think of St. Patrick’s Day, the Grand Marshal says the annual golf tournament is one of the biggest fundraisers for the parade.

He said it’s also an excuse to get outside and spend some time with friends.

“Well, you’re out here on a beautiful day. You’re surrounded by a lot of great foursomes, you’ve got a lot of great people and a bad day at the golf course is still better than a good day at work,” said Seamus Bohan, Grand Marshal for Shamrock Open.

Planning is already underway for next year’s big event. The 2023 Greater New Haven St. Patrick’s Day Parade will step off on Sunday, March 12.
