State and local road crews preparing for messy Sunday storm

Paul Pazmino is the owner of Moxie restaurant in East Haven. Weekends are big for him, and he’s paying close attention to Sunday’s forecast

“I look at the weather. I always look at the weather, you know what I mean? To make sure it’s nice because when it’s nice people come out.”

He’s not the only one watching the weather. Rick Fontana, Director of Emergency Operations for the City of New Haven said the combination of wintry weather is what’s dangerous.

“I think our biggest concern is the fact that we’re going to get a combination of elements that are going to cause alot of problems on Sunday.”

Fontana says it’ll be ‘all hands on deck’ through the weekend.

“We’re going to put all hands on deck. We’re going to have every piece of equipment out on the streets trying to get the snow off the street before the deep freeze comes.”

Something new this year, New Haven has designated the city into three zones; A, B, and C. Based on which zone you live in you’ll get a message via email, text or phone letting you know about parking bans or anything else that will impact you during the storm.

Over at Goody’s Hardware in East Haven, the staff has been busy. People are stocking up, especially on ice melt, shovels, and scrapers.

As a general reminder, when there’s a parking ban in the City of New Haven, you can’t park your car on the odd side of the street. You can always park your car in one of the 15 school lots in the city, or one of the parking garages downtown.
