HARTFORD, Conn. (WTNH)– The Governor is urging everyone along the shoreline to keep a close eye on the progress of Tropical Storm Hermine. The State Department of Emergency Services and Public Protection has been on frequent conference calls with the National Weather Service for any changes regarding the expected impact on the immediate shoreline.
The Governor decided against having a formal news conference on this storm, reflecting the opinion that the impact will be minimal.Related: Shoreline bracing for coastal flooding
The state emergency management people say that the storm needs to be watched closely over the next three to four days because of the potential for minor to moderate coastal flooding in the usual low-lying areas on the shoreline. Gusty winds may produce power outages so be sure you’re prepared.
“There’s always concerns with power outages when we get winds up to 30, 40, 45 miles per hour which could happen during this storm. We do not expect wide spread power outages but there can be some power outages especially along the shoreline with this storm,” said Scott DeVico, CT Dept. of Emergency Services.
In addition to providing frequent updates to the Governor, the Emergency Services staff provides frequent update conference calls to the shoreline communities.
